“Look at me when I talk to you…”

I was walking along Sherbrooke street, to meet some friends at a nearby cafe. It was around 8 p.m. at night, so it was already dark out. At a nearby bus stop, there’s a group of 10 guys standing around, being loud and annoying. As I walked past, they started yelling “hey baby, come here I wanna talk to you…look at me when I talk to you you stuck up bitch…” etc etc. So I try to ignore them and I kept walking past because they were scary and there were tons of them. But it was too late, I was literally surrounded by them. Some were laughing and they were like “hey can’t wait to see you on my dick”. Luckily two random guys came and pretended to know me and grabbed my arm and walked away with me and I was so freaking greatful! I don’t know what might have happened to me otherwise.

Afterwards, I called my boyfriend to tell him what happened and he told me “well, what do you expect, you walked right into it!”. It made me feel like shit, totally alone and unsafe in my own neighborhood.

Sad to say, I’ve heard that response before: “What do you expect?” Men DO NOT seem to get that victim-blaming only makes it 10 times worse.

I’m sorry that your boyfriend was so insensitive. I obviously don’t know him, but in this scenario he sounds like a douche.
